According to the fundraising page, 16-year-old Zy Searcy was on her way to visit friends a few blocks from her home when she was shot in the chest on her bicycle. Because of the severity of her injury, paramedics had to do a needle decompression procedure while transporting her to St. Elizabeth's for emergency surgery.
Searcy was sedated until Tuesday, when police said she was awake and alert.
Utica police say she and the shooter knew each other, and it wasn’t a random incident. However, no suspect has been arrested yet.
Searcy is still in the hospital, according to the post, and won’t be able to return to school or work until she has fully recovered.
