Utica, NY - “Calling all you ladies, we’re looking for you.” Utica Hell Cats CEO Nicole Caquias.
The Utica Sports Alliance held its first tryout for the city's first-ever professional full-tackle women's football team.
They are called the Utica Hell Cats and this will be their inaugural season.
This is an 11-women full-tackle football league as a part of the Women's Football Alliance. The team is preparing for the 2021 season which is to start in April.
“Everyone's used to seeing the men out there whether it's Pop Warner, high school, college or everything else. We're going to have that other element,” said Ken Marion, Utica Sports Alliance Owner and Coach. “We’re excited because we know what could happen here and we think this is a going to be something very big.”
“It's a little late in the week to start our tryouts but due to it being our national tryout date we had to start today. We had to wait for this gym because we can't use any other fields at this time just to get inspected and it’s all good to go,” added Caquias.
“The community feedback has been amazing and it’s just given us even more push to keep going.”
Tryouts are at 726 Washington Street in Utica every Saturday until the end of December.
Participants must follow Covid-19 guidelines including mandatory face coverings and temperatures taken upon arrival. You must be 18 years or older to participate.
