VERONA, N.Y. – Justin Carter, the 36-year-old Verona man who pleaded guilty to menacing a police officer in February, has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison.
In August of 2019, Carter barricaded himself inside a barn off of Route 46 in Verona, leading to a standoff with authorities that lasted seven hours.
During the incident, Carter also shot at officers and police vehicles with a 12-gauge shotgun.
No one was injured during the incident.
Carter was initially charged with attempted murder, which he pleaded not guilty to in September.
Then in February, he pleaded guilty to two felony counts of menacing a police officer.
Carter’s sentence also includes three years of post-release supervision.
