LOWVILLE, N.Y. – Police have identified the two victims of a house fire at 7525 S. State St. in Lowville on Nov. 30.
Catherine A. Crego, 58, and Saratina R. Kilbourne, 42, were both found dead after crews responded to the scene around midnight. Both women resided in separate apartments in the house.

Autopsies conducted at Albany Medical Center show that both victims died of asphyxia from smoke and products of heat combustion.
A resident of the third apartment, Brian S. Mushtare, 60, was rescued from the porch roof by members of the Lowville Fire Department while the house was ablaze.
Mushtare was taken to Lewis County General Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, lacerations and minor burns. He has since been released.
The New York state police, the Lowville Police Department, Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and the Lewis County District Attorney’s Office are continuing the investigation into the fatal house fire.
