WAMPSVILLE – Vietnam War veterans were honored on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at the Madison County War Veteran’s Memorial in Wampsville.
Congressman Anthony Brindisi presented more than 60 veterans with a department of defense commemorative pin honoring their service. Any veteran who served on active duty from Nov. 1, 1955 – May 15, 1975 can be honored with a special Department of Defense pin.
“It’s very important because it means our elected leaders at the national level have placed enough importance in this event to recognize the sacrifice that all these people went through 50 years ago. And arguably 50 years ago, they didn’t get the welcome that they needed or deserved and we’re making up for that now and it’s great to have their support,” said Gen. John C. Andonie, a New York National Guard brigadier.
Brindisi says he will continue working to ensure all veterans receive the care and benefits they've earned.
