NEWPORT, NY – Back in June, 4-year-old Abel Jones and his family set up a lemonade stand on Main St. in Middleville to sell lemonade and brownies in support of local law enforcement.
In fact, several officers stopped by to thank him and grab a glass of lemonade.
Monday evening, members of the Herkimer Police Department, along with Trooper Tara McCormick of the New York State Police, stopped by Abel’s home in Newport, to thank him once again for his support and surprise him with a few special gifts.
They presented Abel with his very own police uniform that included a Herkimer Police Department patch on the shoulder.
But that’s not all.
After trying on his new uniform, he was surprised with his very own top of the line patrol car, complete with lights and siren.
Herkimer Police Officer James Burns says the support Abel Jones shows for him and his fellow officers means a lot.
“Seeing the support from somebody his age is awesome. We like to reach out to the community and meet with the youth in a good light, and this is something that we can give back and do for him.”
