WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Watkins Glen International (WGI) announced its schedule for the upcoming 2021 season, Tuesday, highlighted by a historic return of NASCAR after a year-long hiatus.
From Aug. 6-8, WGI will once again host its NASCAR Go Bowling at The Glen weekend after it had to be moved to Daytona International in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic. It was the first year since 1984 that a NASCAR event had not taken place at the New York-based track.
Adding to the return of NASCAR to the Finger Lakes, is the fact that the Go Bowling weekend will host NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series events, the first time ever all three NASCAR national series will race on the same weekend at The Glen.
It'll also mark the first time in just over two decades the NASCAR Truck Series will run at WGI.
That same weekend will feature an Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) Menards Series race. The ARCA is considered to be a minor league feeder series for NASCAR.
On opening weekend, from Apr. 10-11, fans will have the chance to drive their own street-legal cars on the road course for an event to benefit the Racing and Community Enrichment (R.A.C.E) Foundation.
The schedule also features a Ferrari Challenge, Formula One event, and a couple of festivals.
The season will close at the end of October.
