The heat and humidity continue for the end of the work week, with the potential for thunderstorms both Thursday and Friday. A Heat Advisory has been issued for all of Central NY for Thursday.
Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to low 90s by the afternoon. The combination of hot temperatures and high dew points will create a heat index close to 100 degrees this afternoon. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
A weak disturbance moves through the region this afternoon and evening and with that thunderstorms will begin to develop. Any thunderstorms that do develop could contain damaging winds and hail. An isolated tornado is possible. With all of the extra moisture in the air, heavy rain is likely within any thundestorm.
A strong cold front moves through on Friday, bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms to the area during the afternoon and evening. Same with today, any thunderstorms that do develop could be severe. Once that front moves through, there will be a drop in the heat and humidity for the weekend.
