WESTERNVILLE N.Y.-Libraries have been closed for a while now since the coronavirus pandemic began, and one local library is finding ways to get back open.
The Western Town Library hosted a Chicken Riggies fundraiser Friday night, and it was sold out. It was a curb side pickup event to ensure social distancing.
Proceeds from the Chicken Riggies fundraiser will support the library's daily operations.
More than 100 people turned out for the fundraiser, that more dinners had to be made than planned.
"We planned to sell 140 (dinners), but we had so many orders come in that we had to up it to 180." said Jamie Wilbert, Secretary with the Board of Trustees for the Western Town Library. " (The meal was) Chicken Riggies from Teddy's Restaurant, Italian Bread from Ferlo's Bakery in Rome, and a halfmoon cookie from Hemstrought's Bakery, and then a tossed salad."
And speaking of curbside pickup, the Western Town Library is getting one step closer to reopening.
Starting Tuesday June 16th, the library will be open from 4:00pm-8:00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for curbside pickup only.
People wishing to check out books and other library materials during that timeframe should call the Western Town Library at (315)827-4118, or email the library at firstname.lastname@example.org to order their materials.
Once an order is placed for library materials, the library will call the patrons back to arrange for a pickup time.
The patrons will be able to pickup the materials at the library's front porch during that designated pickup time.
To return library materials to the Western Town Library, there is a purple library book drop that looks like a mailbox to return them in, on the library's front porch.
All interlibrary loans are suspended during this time. So if a book or other material is not available at the Western Town Library, the patron can order it from whatever library they are willing to drive to.
