CLINTON – A 165-pound dog is home safe thanks to a rescue by the Westmoreland Fire Department over the weekend.
On Sunday, Gloria Destefanis posted on Facebook that her 12-year-old Newfoundland dog had wandered off from their home on Skyline Drive in Clinton.
NBC affiliate WSTM reports that Gloria and Dennis Destefanis spent hours searching for the dog, who is named Smitty Bear, and they found him trapped at the bottom of a ravine on their property on Monday morning.
The couple called 911 for help, and the Westmoreland Fire Department was able to hoist the dog out of the ravine using a rescue basket.
Gloria told WSTM that they’re thrilled to have Smitty Bear back home, and they’re spoiling him even “more than usual.”
