So far all of the Oneida County Health Department vaccination points of dispensing (PODs) have been fully booked. That’s 250-300 vaccines a day. The process starts with an appointment, and then there’s a series of steps within the vaccination POD. The first thing that’s going to happen is you need your temperature taken. You’ll have to fill out a health questionnaire and likely wait in a few lines before getting a shot. Oneida County Health Department Executive Director Daniel Gilmore is asking for your patience.
"The supply is coming in, but we’re not all going to be able to be vaccinated at the same time, the same day, the same week even. This is going to take 14 months or greater perhaps according to estimates by the State."
Once you receive your vaccination you’ll go to the recovery area where a nurse will monitor your vital signs. This process can take 15 minutes to a half hour depending on how your feeling. If you'd like to get a shot, it's now required to make an appointment on-line through Oneida County’s website ocgov.net. The Oneida County Office for the Aging is also helping individuals having trouble navigating the online process.
"Appointments are important because we have to plan the number of vaccinators and the number of other personnel on site during the administration of the vaccines."
The entire process can take up to an hour and a half, and you do need an appointment in order to get a vaccination.
