WORCESTER, NY – State Police are engaged in a standoff with a person inside a home in Otsego County.

Troop C’s public information officer tells NewsChannel 2 Troopers responded to a home on the 300 block on Main Street shortly after 2:00 p.m. Monday. When they arrived they found a person barricaded inside the home, which is near the Dollar General.

The Worcester School District posted a note on its website informing parents that it initiated a lockout “due to police activity” near the school grounds, upon request of State Police. The school is located at 198 Main Street, just a couple of blocks from the location of the reported standoff.

The district superintendent tells NewsChannel 2 school normally dismisses at 2:58 p.m., so students will remain in class until the lockout is lifted and they are cleared to go home. There are approximately 370 students in the district, all housed in the same Pre-K through 12th grade building.
