NEW HARTFORD – This week marks 74 years since World War II ended, and veterans at Preswick Glen were honored today for their service and to celebrate Victory Over Japan Day. Congressman Anthony Brindisi met with the residents to thank them for serving the country during the war.
Most WWII veterans are over 90 years old and still urge people to remember the sacrifices that were made during the war.
Eileen Wolcott attended the celebration, and says WWII was “the greatest war that ever was fought, a very justifable war because our ships were sunk at Pearl Harbor. But the country was united. It really, in a way, was a wonderful time because we cared.”
More than 16 million Americans served in WWII.
