ROME, N.Y. --- Wreaths Across America held its 29th annual ceremony on Saturday in Rome. Due to the Coronavirus, a ceremony that normally draws a large crowd each year was scaled down. A smaller ceremony was held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Rome.
Wreaths were laid on the gravestones of fallen veterans honoring them for the sacrifices they made for our country. Among those participating in this year's ceremony were members of the Local Carpenter's Union and the Girl Scouts.
"We planned on having a good ceremony with a speaker here and my master of ceremonies, but he came down with the virus. So rather than have a lot of people here, I'm trying to keep the crowd down, and we're just gonna proceed, put the wreaths on, say a few words," said Ceremony Organizer Bill Chrysler.
A small crowd gathered as the wreaths were distributed.
