Utica, N.Y. - The Utica Yard Dogs season is now two weeks in and so far the team has split the pair of games.
The Dogs came out and crushed the Charlotte Colonials in the opener on May 19, before falling in a heartbreaking overtime contest to the Auburn Pride on June 2.
Utica doesn't play again for another month, giving them plenty of time to get healthy and ready for the next one.
With so much time in between games, the main focus right now is on team chemistry, and it's something the coaches and players alike say is coming along nicely.
"I notice it takes a little longer for everyone to go home after practice now because they're all hanging around, and fooling around and talking," said head coach, Frank Palmisano. "I love to see that because we want to be like a family."
"Going to different restaurants and serving the community and coming together as one," said, defensive end, Penta Thomas. "I feel like a family because we're all starting to come together, we're all starting to gel together."
The Yard Dogs are next in action on July 7 on the road against the Seaway Valley Venom.
They return home July 14 to take on the Plattsburgh North Stars.
