The founder of The Zogby Poll doesn't think the NYS Legislature will have to pull the plug on Governor Andrew Cuomo's political career; he thinks Cuomo, himself, will realize he has no choice, but to step down.
"He has the majority of the democrats in both houses of the legislature calling on him to resign. He has the President of the United States doing the same thing. You have 12 Gannett newspapers, that's all the newspapers they have in NY State, front page, calling upon him to resign," says John Zogby. "Nobody wants him around anymore. He's damaged goods."
Zogby says there is no surviving NYS Attorney General, Letitia James', report, finding that Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women, including a NYS trooper and one of his own staff members. The women gaved detailed accounts of their interactions with Cuomo. Many were corroborated by witnesses.
"The rebuttal that he gave yesterday just doesn't convince anyone. People don't go to governors, especially when they're young women, for counseling," says Zogby.
Zogby says there is one group that could stand to benefit, politically, if the governor were to hang around.
"This is the kind of game changer that could enable a Republican party that otherwise has been in terrible shape," says Zogby. "Fortunately for the Democrats, the Republican party in this state is smarting. It's hurting. It doesn't have the money or the infrastructure but there's certainly a fast way for them to have the money and the infrastructure and that is for Andrew Ccuomo to hang around."
Zogby doesn't expect Cuomo to walk away tomorrow; he thinks efforts to remove him will begin -- but that he will likely resign before they conclude.
