Ben Vahey is a multimedia journalist at WKTV NEWSChannel 2.
Ben joined the NEWSChannel 2 team in June of 2019, and since he started, he has covered the Halloween floods, numerous fires, motor vehicle accidents, crime, sports and more. He also covered the Poland and Central Valley Academy Girls Soccer team playoff runs in the Fall of 2019, as well as the high school football and basketball Section III Championships at the Carrier Dome and SRC Arena in Syracuse.
Ben came to WKTV after graduating from SUNY Brockport with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and broadcasting.
While at Brockport, Ben was the sports director at Talon Television, the student-run television station at the college. He covered the Brockport football and women’s soccer teams, local high school sports, and more. He says he will never forget the shows he did with the Brockport and local athletes, which drew numerous views to the station’s website and social media channels.
Prior to his time at Brockport, Ben earned his Associate of Applied Science Degree in electronic media communications at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse. While at OCC, he learned how to shoot and edit video, and write scripts for television news.
He also interned at NewsChannel 9 WSYR-TV in Syracuse, and News 8 WROC-TV in Rochester while in college.
Ben is a Jamesville, N.Y. native and is excited to begin his career the Mohawk Valley Region. When he’s not at work he enjoys spending time with his family, especially his mother.
