herkimer county is moving forward with a project to reconstruct a road ..that runs through two different towns. newschannel 2's caitlin irla talked with the highway superintendent for herkimer county. --and caitlin, this travis road project is going to happen don ... yeah don, this project was approved last year by herkimer county legislators, and after the highway superintendent presented the project plans in the town's of danube and stark.... both town supervisors sent a letter saying they support this project. tonight, at the herkimer county legislature meeting, there was a brief discussion about the project. a few residents were there to voice their concerns, but the highway superintendent tells me that the project is going to happen. this 1.2 million dollar project will reconstruct a portion of travis road, from johnnycake road to route 168. the road is in the town of danube and the town of stark, and both town supervisors agree that the road is in bad shape and needs to be repaired. the highway superintendent says even though the road is a low volume road in new york state standards, it is a liability for herkimer county. "we want to bring it up to current standards and current widths. and here again thats why we have to widen the road and cut some trees and things like that which some of the residents are opposed to. i think there is residents out there that are in support of e pject as wellas many town officials who you don't see come in to these meetings." right now, mark nagele says the highway department is working on the final plans for the project. once everything is finalized, construction will start sometime in may or early june depending on the weather. don. time for a first look at the forecast.. here's chief
