tell you what happened from our crews that were on site. good evening at 11 oclock....i'm jason powles. several fire departments were called in to battle a fire at 311 turner street tonight. you could see the smoke from that fire for miles. newschannel 2's callihan marshall was there tonight, she joins us live in the studio with the latest... jason, the fire happened at the charlestown mall complex on turner street, right on the oneida and herkimer county border. this was a vacant building. i was coming from herkimer, and i could see the smoke all the way from there. i did speak with some fire officials at the scene who tell me they had the fire under control in less than an hour. they are still down there putting out hot spots. they did say flames were shooting up from the building. five fire departments were called. the chief for frankfort center fire department, dave miller tells me there were several abandoned cars in the building. he says the part of the building that burned is one story....but the building is actually four stories. i spoke with witnesses, who describe what they saw. "we were at dave's diner at the car show and we saw smoke and we were curious and we just drove by and it was just a big cloud of gray smoke so we were curious. charlestown was built in the 19-hundreds.. there was a fire there back in 20-14 a portion of bleecker street is still closed, and
