FISHKILL, N.Y. -- Notorious local murderer, Bernie Hatch, has died at the age of 81.

The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has Hatch listed as deceased as of Nov. 8. It's not clear whether Hatch died in prison, at Fishkill Correctional Facility, or in a hospital. He was still in custody.

Hatch went to prison in 1975 after he was convicted of the 1973 murder of Mary Turner, in the area of Potato Hill, in the town of Steuben, earning him the moniker "Potato Hill Killer."

No word on a cause of death.
