NEW LONDON, N.Y. -- State Police are investigating after a vehicle reportedly went off Lock 21 and into the Erie Canal early Saturday morning.
Calls of a 'sinking vehicle' in the canal came in at 5:30 a.m. It occurred on Lock Road in New London.
Officials with the New London Fire Department confirmed to 911 dispatchers that people were inside the vehicle when it was submerged in the water.
According to rescue personnel, the occupants within the vehicle made it out.
It is not clear what led the vehicle to end up in the canal, the number of occupants, or the extent of their injuries, if any.
The New York State DEC has been notified of the incident so they can determine if any type of fluid from the vehicle leaked into the canal.
