NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. - Early Thanksgiving morning, the New York Mills Police Department says it received a call for two abandoned puppies on a doorstep.
The call came in at 1:14 a.m. where police discovered two newborn puppies in a shoebox on Greenman Ave.
Police say after further investigation it was discovered that the puppies were not abandoned, but were taken from the mother shortly after giving birth.
According to police, the suspect who removed the newborns from their mother's care made a false report after ultimately deciding he was unable to care for the puppies.
Police say due to the very young age of the puppies, agencies they contacted couldn't care for them. A Facebook post made by the department helped connect them to a woman who said she would care for them until a proper home was located.
