Homicide not far from Boilermaker course delays start of race

UTICA, N.Y. -- A homicide in Utica Sunday morning delayed the start of the Boilermaker Wheelchair Race and then the Boilermaker 15K Road Race around 15 minutes.

Utica police confirm that the incident took place not too far from the course on Poe Street, a side street that runs off of Culver Avenue right in the first mile of the course.

Utica Police Lt. Bryan Coromato says a woman was pronounced dead, and a man was rushed to the hospital in what they are calling a possible domestic incident.

The man had significant cuts and lacerations, according to police.

Coromato says the murder weapon was a sharp instrument but wouldn't elaborate further.

Coromato did provide more information regarding the call that came in to police around 7:00 Sunday morning that led police to the crime scene on Poe Street, "We got a call from one of the parents that was concerned about some things that were occurring in the relationship at this point.  At this point that call along with what occurred is still under investigation so we have nothing further to release at this point on that."

Coromato wouldn't elaborate on how police knew exactly where the vehicle was at the end of Poe Street.

WKTV will have more information as soon as it becomes available.
