Upstate man accused of racist incident at work

Saratoga County, N.Y. - A Saratoga County, man is accused of a racist act at his place of work.

53-year-old Thomas McDermott of Wilton is charged with aggravated harassment, a Class E felony.

State Police say McDermott's arrest follows a two-month investigation into a report of a bias-related incident that occurred on a construction site in the town of Rotterdam.

State Police say the incident was reported by an employee at the construction site and immediately reported to state police by an onsite supervisor.

McDermott is accused of using construction materials to assemble a small figure resembling a person of color, which he then hung with a noose made of twine.

McDermott is due back in Rotterdam Town Court on June 14th at 3:00 P.M..
