Flash Flood Watch

NWS Binghamton (South Central New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania)

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT... The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania, including the following areas, in central New York, Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Sullivan, and Tioga. In northeast Pennsylvania, Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Northern Wayne, Pike, Southern Wayne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming.

* Until midnight EDT tonight

* Numerous showers and thunderstorms will move through northeast Pennsylvania and central New York into the evening hours. Storms will contain torrential downpours, capable of producing localized flash flooding. Areas with recent rainfall will be particularly vulnerable.

* Flooding could quickly develop along creeks, small streams, urban and in other low lying areas. Ponding of water on roadways is likely to occur.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.


Flood Advisory

Areas Affected: Chenango; Delaware; Otsego; Sullivan

NWS Binghamton (South Central New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania)

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a

* Flood Advisory for... Southern Otsego County in central New York... Delaware County in central New York... Northwestern Sullivan County in central New York... Southern Chenango County in central New York...

* Until 830 PM EDT.

* At 531 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms moving into the area. Some portions of Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties already received heavy rain this morning. This additional rainfall will cause minor flooding in parts of the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Rockland, Oneonta, Norwich, Sidney, Walton, Delhi, Davenport, Guilford, Roxbury and Worcester.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

* A portion of central New York, including the following areas, Cortland, Madison, Northern Oneida, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Southern Oneida, Steuben, Tompkins, and Yates.

* Until 8 PM EDT this evening

* Numerous showers and thunderstorms will move through central New York through the early evening hours. Storms will contain torrential downpours, capable of producing localized flash flooding. Areas with recent rainfall will be particularly vulnerable.
