...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING... The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania, including the following areas, in central New York, Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Sullivan, and Tioga. In northeast Pennsylvania, Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Northern Wayne, Pike, Southern Wayne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming.

* From 5 PM EDT this afternoon through Saturday morning

* A period of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms is expected to impact the area later this afternoon through tonight. Rainfall rates could locally approach or exceed three quarters of an inch per hour at times. Storm total rainfall of 1 to 2 inches, with localized higher amounts around 3 inches are forecast in the watch area.

* The combination of wet soils and a heavy amount of rain in a short period of time could result in minor flooding along creeks and the headwater points in the local river basins. Flooding could also occur on low lying roadways, urban and poor drainage areas.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING... The Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of New York and southern Vermont, including the following areas, in New York, Hamilton, Montgomery, Northern Fulton, Northern Herkimer, Northern Saratoga, Northern Warren, Northern Washington, Southeast Warren, Southern Fulton, Southern Herkimer, and Southern Washington. In southern Vermont, Bennington, Eastern Windham, and Western Windham.

* From this evening through Sunday morning

* Moderate to heavy rainfall on nearly saturated ground with already elevated water levels will lead to sharp rises on many area rivers and streams. The Mohawk, Sacandaga, Black, Upper Hudson, Hoosic, Lake George, Deerfield in eastern New York and West River Basins in southern Vermont including their tributaries are at most risk for additional flooding. Additional poor drainage areas will also be susceptible to flooding.

* Those with interests in low-lying or flood prone areas should continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
